Mardi Gras (also known as Shrove Tuesday or Canival) is a colorful festival celebrated by many countries around the world. Traditionally it was a time to feast on rich fatty foods and have some fun before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
During Mardi Gras, colorful bead necklaces are often thrown out to party-goers, and people wear bightly-colored masks and costumes along with their growing bead collection.
Celebrations often involve dancing and parades in the streets, and of course, eating some special 'King Cake', a sweet pastry cake with brightly coloured frosting.
